What is the Confident Parent Course?

And why it's different...

What is the Confident Parent Course?

The Confident Parent Course, developed by Dr Jenny Brown, aims to help parents move from stress and tension in today's parenting landscape, to clarity and confidence. Based on Bowen Family Systems Theory, a key shift in healthy family functioning is moving from viewing the child as 'the project' — the one to fix or focus all energy on — to seeing the parent's own growth and leadership as the real project.

The 4-part course explores:

  1. Where is my energy directed?
  2. Is worry driving my connection?
  3. How do I hold clear limits?
  4. Am I thinking big picture?

Hope grows when the project is the parent, not the child.

Feedback from Parents

I just think this course has been brilliant. It made me feel like I was important to the health of my children. That I was doing something myself, rather than sending them to appointments and me waiting for things to happen.

Parent

I found the focus on big picture parenting, no quick fixes, plus focusing on what’s in my control to be game changers in my parenting.

Parent

Stopping to think about where I focus all my energy was such a surprising way to start. I really thought I needed to become an expert on my child and felt guilty for not putting enough energy into this. The idea of refocusing energy direction towards managing my own self was so empowering.

Become a Facilitator

The most impactful way to bring this approach to your community is to train as a Confident Parent Course Facilitator.

As a facilitator, you’ll be equipped to:

  • Understand family systems thinking
  • Lead confident, reflective group discussions
  • Help parents shift from worry-driven parenting to principle-based leadership
  • Use professional resources that make facilitation straightforward

Host a Facilitator

If you’d like to bring the Confident Parent Course to your community but aren’t ready to complete the full facilitator training, another option is to host a trained facilitator in your school, church, practice, or organisation.

Experienced facilitators can travel to deliver the four-part course, guiding parents through the key ideas of Bowen Family Systems Theory and helping them grow in clarity, leadership, and confidence in their parenting.

Become a Co-Facilitator

When hosting a visiting facilitator, we recommend that someone within your organisation trains as a Co-Facilitator.

This role helps ensure the ideas introduced in the course continue to take root locally—supporting parents during the sessions and sustaining meaningful conversations long after the course has finished.

Co-Facilitator Training is ideal for:

  • School counsellors and wellbeing staff
  • Ministers, pastoral care teams, or family workers
  • Community and support workers
  • Anyone supporting parents in the environment where the course is being run

Through this training, you’ll develop a foundational understanding of family systems thinking, learn how to support group discussions, and help embed the Parent Hope approach in your organisation.

Ongoing Access for Facilitators

Once trained, you can continue delivering the course in your community with a Facilitator Membership.

Membership provides ongoing access to the full course, facilitator highlights, the community hub, and new learning—keeping your leadership resourced year after year. Facilitators who maintain an active membership can also choose to be listed on our website as trained Confident Parent Course facilitators, helping families and organisations find and connect with you.
